Lesa Cline-Ransome has written over thirty titles for picture book, chapter book, middle grade and young adult readers on historic subjects and notable figures including Frederick Douglass, Satchel Paige, Pele, Louis Armstrong and Harriet Tubman.
Winner of the Newbery Honor for her verse novel, One Big Open Sky, Lesa’s titles have received Coretta Scott King Honors, an NAACP Image Award, Kirkus and New York Times Best Book, the Jane Addams Award and the Scott O’Dell Award for Historical Fiction.
She lives in the Hudson Valley region of New York with her husband, and frequent collaborator, illustrator James Ransome.
