Winsome Bingham is an author and literacy advocate for reading and authentic representation of children and communities in children’s literature. She is a connoisseur of soul food and a master cook (at KidLit dinner parties, reunions, and get-togethers). She is a teacher by trade and a disabled military veteran by circumstance. She received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education, and an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults. Her book, THE WALK illustrated by E. B. Lewis, centers the themes of voting, community, and hope. It received multiple starred reviews and was shortlisted for the Jane Addams Peace Award. THE TABLE, co-written with Wiley Blevins, & illustrated by Caldecott Honoree Jason Griffin have already received three starred reviews and is a Junior Library Guild Selection.
Other books by Winsome Bingham include her debut book, SOUL FOOD SUNDAY, which was one of The New York Times Best Books of the Year, as well as the winner of the Connecticut Book Award, and made multiple Best Books of the Year list including Publishers Weekly and Bank Street College of Education. It garnered a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor Award for C. G. Esperanza. She authored THE FORT GOODE series, a chapter books series centering children of military servicemembers and published by Reycraft Books.
This fall, two more books written by her will hit the bookstores. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, illustrated by Caldecott Honoree Molly Mendoza; and MISSING MOMMA, illustrated by Rahele Jomepour Bell.
